My first experience with the Bubble Room was back in the 90's during college spring break. My college roommate brought me to Sanibel for a weekend to experience southern Florida. She told me how many famous people loved the Bubble Room and asked if we should go.

I was a college kid who was barely making spring break happen. In my mind the Bubble Room was going to be this fancy champagne bar since it was named "The Bubble Room".

Imagine my surprise years later when my husband John and I finally went to The Bubble Room and we walked up to a rainbow, whimsical, over the top restaurant that is the farthest from fancy champagne bar you can get.

The Bubble Room is one of the most iconic restaurants on the Florida Gulf Coast for a reason. There is something so special about this restaurant and the memories that come from it.

Rainbow paint on the walkway, awnings leading to the Bubble room restaurant, toy cars, and Coke signs on the building along with Santa on a sleigh art

Open on Captiva Island since 1979, it was originally a family home on Captiva Drive. The house was transformed into a landmark dining destination featuring three floors of eclectic vintage decor, over 3,000 antiques from the 1930s and 1940s, iconic retro bubble lights, moving model trains, photographs of musicians and stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood, an aquarium, and a large resident Mickey Mouse.

Servers are called Bubble Scouts and the entire experience is designed to feel like stepping into a different world.

After taking a direct hit from Hurricane Ian in September 2022, The Bubble Room gutted its entire first floor and undertook a full renovation that also weathered Hurricanes Helene and Milton.

After exactly 1,021 days, the restaurant officially reopened in July 2025, carefully restored with familiar menu and decor.

The renovation added a few seats, grouped decor into more intentional themed areas, including a dedicated nautical room, and upgraded some displays, including replacing a cardboard cutout with a full wax figure. The cake recipes were not changed.

The Bubble Room is open 364 days a year and does not take reservations. Seating is first come, first served.

    Indoor Seating

There is seating spread throughout the Bubble Room on multiple levels. If you have any mobility restrictions make sure to let the front staff know when you put your name on the list.

The seating is a mix of tables and chairs along with special seating randomly spread throughout the restaurant. We were in a honeymoon corner during our last visit that had a great old fashioned couch to sit on. We were tucked in a closet in the back of the room and it felt like we had space just for us.

    Indoor Bar

The indoor bar is a great space to relax and enjoy a drink. Bubble lights are lining the bar top, tons of photos and decorations to look at, and a really fun atosphere.
