The Lady in the Lake Alabama is a fun roadside attraction located near the tiny town of Elberta, Alabama, along the Gulf Coast.
Lady in the Lake Alabama
If you love finding random photo opportunities, Instagram pics, and fun roadside attractions you will love checking out the Lady in the Lake.
She is also called the Lady in the Bay or Lady in the Marina, which is a bit more appropriate considering she is in Bay La Launch which is near the Gulf of Mexico. You will find her located at Barber Marina, surrounded by luxury yachts.
The Lady in the Bay sculpture was built by fiberglass artist Mark Cline. The fiberglass woman sculpture would be taller than the Statue of Liberty if she was standing up.
Local businessman George Barber funded the quirky fiberglass sculpture project. I read that the official name is Country Girl Skinny Dipping, but I have only heard it called the Lady in the Lake.
The Lady in the Lake was seriously damaged during Hurricane Sally (September 14, 2020) but she has been repaired and is back in place.
Mr. Barber arranged for the damaged pieces of the sculpture to be sent to Mr. Cline's studio in Natural Bridge, Virginia.
The sculpture that is seen today is the second lady in the bayou that has been created.
There are now plans in place that if a hurricane is heading to the area, she will be removed from the water and put into storage.
I am hopeful that we won't have a hurricane any time soon and that she can remain floating in the bay, greeting locals and visitors.
There are actually two Lady in the Lake sculptures now. The one located at Barber Marina near Elberta and one in a lake at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds/Birmingham.
How to see the Lady in the Lake Alabama
Drive towards Barber Marina and follow the round-about at the second exit to the parking lot.
You can see the Lady in the Lake floating at the end of the marina from the parking lot. Walk towards the marina and you can follow the ramp along the floating walkway to the end of the dock.
If you take the 3rd exit on the round about you can walk out and see across the water to the Lady in the Lake sculpture.
