✨What's New in Mobile, AL
Condé Charlotte Museum
The building was built in 1822 and was the first courthouse and city jail in Mobile, Alabama. It was placed between the southern Bastions of Fort Conde.
Twenty-seven years later, in 1849, the building was purchased by Jonathan Kirkbride, who turned it into the Kirkbride family residence. The kitchen was converted from Mobile's first courthouse and jail section.

When you visit Conde-Charlotte House, look for the two-foot-thick brick floor in the kitchen wing, which was an old jail cell. It is now the Confederate gentleman's parlor.

In 1940, the Historic Mobile Preservation Society purchased the site. They restored the building to be a museum highlighting Mobile's history under five flags: France, England, Spain, Confederate, and American.
Look for the five flags over the front portico.

During your visit, a guide will lead you through the house, showcasing the different period antiques and the restoration that was done to the house. Each room is set up with period furnishings to showcase how the house has been used over time.
Tours of the historic house museum include:
- British Commandant's room
- French sitting room (early 1700s)
- American Federal dining room (early 1800s)
- Antebellum period Confederate parlors
- American bedrooms (mid-1800s)
- Walled Spanish courtyard
- Kitchen (Late 19th and early 20th century equipment)
Make sure to check out the door to the kitchen! You may see jail cell doors.
