James P Morgan Memorial Park and Botanical Gardens
Tucked on the bay side of Pensacola Beach is a fantastic botanical gardens and memorial park.
This hidden gem is filled with native plants, a couple of areas to sit and relax, and gorgeous views of the water.
Back in 2022 the James P Morgan Memorial Park and Botanical Gardens went through a renovation thanks to volunteer gardeners.
The 30-40 volunteer gardeners put out new bales of pine straw for the trails and planted native plants, including dune sunflower, Firebush shrubs, palmetto palms, green saw palmetto, pineapple guava, and more.
The group of volunteer gardeners was organized by the Santa Rosa Island Authority (SRIA). They partnered with Escambia County, the University of Florida IFAS Extension, and the Florida Master Gardener Volunteer.

Today, the park is an oasis offering a quiet break from the crowds on Casino Beach and Quietwater Beach.
Dr. James P Morgan was a world-renowned beach geologist and professor for University of West Florida and Louisiana State University.
The park has survived tropical storms and numerous hurricanes.

One thing we love to enjoy when visiting James P Morgan Park is the beautiful view of the Santa Rosa Sound. It feels like a quiet oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas.
If you are looking for a place to relax, read a book, bird watch, take a deep breath, or enjoy a quiet walk this is a great park.

Why you will love James P Morgan Memorial Park and Botanical Gardens
- Great birding
- Relaxing break
- Great picnic spot with shaded green space
- Soak in the natural beauty of the Florida Gulf Coast
- Tranquil oasis in the middle of Pensacola Beach
Remember to bring sunscreen, water, and be prepared for the weather. The path is made with pine straw. I like to wear closed toed shoes as an extra layer of protection in case there is anything creepy crawly in the pine straw.
I haven't run into anything during our visits, but living along the Alabama Gulf Coast has taught me to always be prepared for snakes and bugs.
