Cape Palms Park - Cape San Blas

Modified: Feb 6, 2026 · Published: Jan 10, 2026 by Tammilee · This post may contain affiliate links

Cape Palms Park in Cape San Blas, Florida, offers a peaceful Gulf of Mexico beach experience with a covered pavilion, observation deck, and a swing with stunning sunset views.

While Hurricane Michael damage in 2018 created beach access challenges with a significant sand cliff, the park's observation deck and amenities make it a worthwhile stop for those looking to enjoy beautiful Gulf views, peaceful picnicking, and romantic sunsets without needing to access the sand.

Cape Palms Park is one of the quieter public beach access points on Cape San Blas, and that's part of its charm.

While the park is still recovering from Hurricane Michael damage in 2018, including a significant sand cliff that makes beach access challenging, the observation deck and amenities above the beach make it a worthwhile stop on Cape San Blas.

During our recent visit we really enjoyed sitting on the swing watching the waves roll in from the Gulf. It was incredibly relaxing and perfect for a chill afternoon.

This would be a fantastic spot for a romantic sunset picnic or date night.

The covered pavilion at Cape Palms Park provides shade and picnic tables where you can enjoy lunch or snacks while taking in the Gulf views. We found it to be a peaceful spot that wasn't crowded at all, very different from the busier public beach accesses further south on Cape San Blas.

The observation deck gives you that 'on the beach' feeling without having to navigate down to the sand, which is especially nice if you're just stopping by for sunset or have mobility concerns."

Cape Palms Park Beach Access and Amenities

The park did incur damage from Hurricane Michael in 2018 and is still recovering. Right now you can enjoy a covered pavilion, picnic tables, a restroom, outdoor shower, and a great observation deck with a swing overlooking the Gulf.

Steep sand cliff with houses over the top with sandy beach to the Gulf of Mexico

There is a large sand cliff from hurricane damage at the base of the beach access stairs. This creates a significant drop-off to reach the sand. If you have mobility challenges, are traveling with small children, or have beach wagons/equipment, this access point will be difficult or impossible to navigate safely.

However, the observation deck, pavilion, and swing area provide excellent Gulf views and beach atmosphere without requiring you to go down to the sand level.

Cape Palms Park Tips & FAQs

Is Cape Palms Park good for families? Cape Palms Park can be good for families, but with important caveats. The covered pavilion, picnic tables, and observation deck are perfect for families who want to enjoy the beach atmosphere without going on the sand.

However, the large sand cliff at the beach access makes getting down to the water difficult and potentially unsafe for small children. If your family wants to play in the sand and swim, you'll want to choose a different Cape San Blas beach access with easier entry. For sunset watching, picnicking, or just enjoying the views, it works great for families.

Are there lifeguards at Cape Palms Park? Lifeguards are not present at this Cape San Blas Beach.

Can you bring dogs to Cape Palms Park? Yes, dogs are allowed on the beach. Please make sure they are near you and safe.

Are there restrooms at Cape Palms Park? Yes, there are clean restrooms and an outdoor shower to rinse off with.

Can you still enjoy Cape Palms Park without going to the beach? Absolutely! The observation deck, covered pavilion, and swing area all offer beautiful Gulf views. We actually spent our entire visit on the deck and pavilion area and had a wonderful, relaxing time watching the waves.
